In a bid to avoid conflict of interest and guarantee a level playing field for all aspirants, Delta North All Progressive Congress (APC) Coalition For Equity, (CFE), has set up a seven-man Screening Committee.

This may not be unconnected to the APC state congress that is drawing near and the stepping aside of the chairman of the coalition, Barr. Alex Ikpeazu, following his declaration of interest to contest for the position of APC State chairman, representing Delta north (Ika Federal Constituency).

According to Hon. Kemmer Emina, Secretary-General, Delta North APCCFE, the committee will ensure transparency, fairness, and credibility in the selection process especially as the Congress draws near.

“The Committee comprises one nominee from each aspirant, and its mandate is to screen all interested aspirants and recommend the most suitable, credible and generally acceptable candidate to emerge as the preferred choice of Delta North APC stakeholders.

“The Delta North APC Coalition for Equity remains committed to the ideals of equity, unity, and inclusive participation within the party. We also reaffirm our unwavering determination to ensure that Delta north continues to play a strong and strategic role in the leadership and growth of the APC in Delta State.

“The Coalition wishes all Delta North APC aspirants success as the congresses approach and calls on all party faithful (Particularly our Old APC Members) to remain united, peaceful, and committed to the  progress of the All Progressives Congress (APC)” he said.

Delta North APC Coalition for Equity said this decision was unanimously reached at a crucial stakeholders’ meeting of the coalition and has unanimously appointed Chief Iyke Mordi as the Acting Chairman, to oversee and coordinate the affairs of the coalition pending the conclusion of the various congresses.

The Coalition acknowledges that the stepping aside by Barr lkpeazu was taken in the spirit of fairness, equity, transparency, and justice, considering the fact that the coalition accommodates various aspirants and stakeholders with similar political interests.

“It became necessary and appropriate for Ikpeazu to step aside in order to avoid any perceived conflict of interest and to guarantee a level playing field for all aspirants of Delta north origin as the APC state congress draws nearer”.

According to Mordi, the Coalition commends Ikpeazu for his maturity, leadership and commitment to democratic values, as well as his willingness to uphold the integrity of the coalition and the collective interest of Delta north.
