APC Support Groups Oppose Alleged Consensus Candidate For Ekiti Reps Seat

A coalition of support groups within the All Progressives Congress (APC) has opposed the alleged endorsement of Mr. Toyin Okoro Zacheaus as consensus candidate for the Ekiti South Federal Constituency House of Representatives seat ahead of the party’s primary election.

The group called on the APC House of Representatives Screening Committee in Ekiti State and the party’s national leadership to thoroughly examine issues raised against the aspirant before taking any decision on his candidacy.

In a petition addressed to the chairman of the APC Screening Committee for the House of Representatives in Ekiti State, the coalition questioned the suitability of the aspirant over allegations contained in the petition.

The group described the alleged endorsement process as lacking due consultation and transparency.

The petition also raised concerns over alleged violations of provisions of the Code of Conduct for Public Officers and the Constitution in relation to the aspirant’s position as a public officer in the National Assembly.

The coalition further alleged that a company reportedly linked to the aspirant was connected to government contracts valued at about N90 million, a development it said should be investigated by the party.

Part of the petition read: “We respectfully draw your attention to the alleged endorsement of Mr. Okoro Toyin Zacheaus as a preferred candidate for the House of Representatives seat representing Ekiti South Federal Constituency.”

The petition, which was signed on behalf of the groups by the Secretary-General, Chidiebere Osondu, urged the APC leadership and screening committee to investigate the allegations before taking further steps regarding the aspirant’s candidacy.
