APM Faults Presidency’s Claim On Trump’s Terrorism Commendation

The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has accused the Presidency of misleading Nigerians by claiming that United States President Donald Trump commended President Bola Tinubu for his administration’s fight against terrorism.

In a statement issued on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, the party argued that President Trump’s letter merely acknowledged Tinubu’s stated commitment to tackling terrorism and did not praise his administration’s performance or achievements in addressing insecurity.

The APM described as “reprehensible” what it called an attempt by the Presidency to distort the content and context of the US President’s correspondence in order to project an image of success in the fight against terrorism.

According to the party, a careful reading of President Trump’s July 6, 2026 letter showed that the US leader applauded Tinubu’s resolve to address security challenges, particularly violence affecting Christian communities, but did not commend him for any concrete achievements against terrorists.

The party challenged the Presidency to identify any portion of the letter where Trump praised the Nigerian government for tangible results in combating terrorism, insisting that there is a clear distinction between acknowledging a commitment and endorsing actual performance.

“It speaks of resolve and commitment; it does not celebrate any particular achievement in the war against terrorists,” the statement said.

The APM maintained that despite repeated assurances by the Tinubu administration to tackle insecurity, Nigerians were yet to see decisive action capable of ending terrorist attacks, kidnappings and killings across the country.

The opposition party further alleged that the Federal Government was relying on political messaging rather than concrete action to address the country’s security challenges.

It urged the Tinubu administration to focus on delivering measurable results instead of seeking what it described as international endorsements.

The party also called on the Presidency to be honest with Nigerians and the international community about the state of insecurity in the country.

The APM added that it believed Nigerians would assess the administration based on its record on security and other issues during the 2027 general elections.
