Mikel Arteta has provided positive injury updates on key members of his squad as Arsenal prepare for their final two matches of the season.
The newly crowned Premier League champions will travel to face Crystal Palace on Sunday before taking on Paris Saint-Germain in next weekend’s UEFA Champions League Final.
Arsenal secured the league title earlier this week, ending a 22-year wait for the championship and completing a remarkable domestic campaign under Arteta.
Speaking ahead of the Palace encounter, the Arsenal manager confirmed that midfielder Mikel Merino has returned to full training and could be available for selection soon.
“Mikel is going to start to train with the group tomorrow. Today was a light session,” Arteta told reporters.
However, the Spaniard admitted that defender Jurrien Timber is still recovering and remains slightly behind schedule.
“Jurrien, let’s hope he can do the same in the next few days. He’s a bit further behind than Mikel,” Arteta added.
The fitness of key players will be crucial for Arsenal as they seek to complete a memorable season with European glory. The Gunners are aiming to win the Champions League for the first time in the club’s history after already securing domestic success.
Supporters will now hope the returning players can boost the squad ahead of the high-profile showdown against PSG.
