Atletico Madrid Open Talks To Sign Tottenham Captain Romero

Atletico Madrid have initiated negotiations to acquire Tottenham Hotspur captain Cristian Romero, with the Argentine defender expected to depart north London this summer despite signing a four-year contract in August.

Inter Milan have also expressed interest in the 28-year-old World Cup finalist, but Atletico manager Diego Simeone — a long-term admirer — is pushing to secure the center-back.

Personal terms are not expected to be an obstacle, and Spurs are fully aware of the Spanish club’s pursuit.

Tottenham manager Roberto de Zerbi has stated he will “respect the will” of players seeking exits. Romero, who missed last season’s finale with a knee injury and received two red cards during Spurs’ 17th-place finish, is set to move as fellow defender Micky van de Ven nears a new five-year deal with the club.
