Team Nigeria has commenced its campaign at the ongoing 4th Africa Youth Games in Luanda, Angola, with a series of promising early victories and qualifications. The arrival of the Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade, has further energised Team Nigeria as they strive for continental honours.
Day one saw a dominant performance from Nigeria’s table tennis contingent. The boys’ singles team triumphed over Ethiopia with a 3-0 victory, securing their spot in the Round of 32. The girls’ singles team also excelled, topping Group 4 ahead of Madagascar and Ghana to advance to the next stage.
As the Games move into day two, Nigeria’s badminton team is set to compete in the semi-finals, with high hopes of reaching the final.
NSC’s director-general Bukola Olopade upon arrival, in a statement made available to journalists yesterday by his SA media Kola Daniel, reiterated Nigeria’s dedication to establishing a robust foundation for country’s sports, stressing the Commission’s focus on cultivating a sustainable talent pipeline to consistently produce world-class athletes.
