Dr Bala Maijama’a Wunti has provided free unlimited internet access for Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi (ATBU), to improve access to digital learning resources.

LEADERSHIP reports that 31 other tertiary institutions benefitted from the scheme.

Also, the initiative, which targets major higher educational institutions across the state, has installed 61 internet devices to provide students with reliable connectivity for research, academic collaboration and digital innovation.

The benefitting schools include Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Federal Polytechnic Bauchi, Federal College of Education, Jama’are, Sa’adu Zungur University, Aliko Dangote School of Nursing, and several colleges of health sciences, agriculture, education and Islamic studies.

Speaking on the initiative, Wunti said the intervention was aimed at strengthening access to knowledge and preparing young people in Bauchi State to compete in an increasingly digital and knowledge-driven world.

According to him, investment in education and digital infrastructure remains critical to nurturing the next generation of leaders, innovators and professionals.

“We have realised that digital infrastructure is what is needed today to connect our youth to the global community. This comes along with a multitude of opportunities waiting to be explored, and that is why we are making our own little contribution,” he said.

Wunti added that empowering students with digital tools would not only improve academic performance but also encourage innovation, research and leadership development among young people.

He urged students in the beneficiary institutions to make responsible use of the opportunity to enhance their studies and contribute meaningfully to societal development.

Observers say the initiative reflects Wunti’s sustained commitment to youth development and human capital growth, noting that access to free internet will enable students to explore global academic resources and build critical digital skills needed in today’s economy.

Students across the institutions have also welcomed the development, describing it as a timely intervention that will significantly boost research, learning and innovation within campuses across Bauchi State.
