Suspected bandits have killed one person and abducting 11 others in Gadanaji community, Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna state.

The attack, according to local sources, occurred in the early hours of Thursday at about 1:44 a.m., when over 20 armed men stormed the community, shooting sporadically and throwing residents into panic.

Eyewitness accounts indicated that the sudden gunfire shattered the calm of the night, forcing residents to flee their homes in confusion as families struggled to escape the violence.

Confirming the attack, the Parish Priest of St. John Paul II Catholic Church, Gadanaji, Rev. Fr. Francis Ezeokwelume, said the attackers operated for a considerable period without resistance, during which they carried out the abductions and looted valuables.

“At about 1:44 a.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2026, more than 20 armed bandits attacked residents of Gadanaji in Kachia LGA of Kaduna State. One person was killed, while 11 others, including women and children, were abducted.

“The bandits also made away with three motorcycles and other valuables from the community.”

The cleric expressed deep sorrow over the incident, calling for prayers for the repose of the deceased and the safe return of those abducted.

Residents were said to have deserted their homes in the aftermath of the attack, with many seeking refuge in neighbouring communities amid fears of further violence.

Meanwhile, Kaduna State Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, did not respond or return calls put through his phone over the latest attack.

Also, when contacted on telephone, commissioner for internal security and home affairs, Kaduna State, Sule Shu’aibu, said he would get back.
