Worried by the heavy gridlock caused by horse riders celebrating wedding and other festivities, Bauchi State Roads Traffic Agency (BAROTA) has banned riding horses on major roads within Bauchi metropolis.
LEADERSHIP Friday learned that travellers passing through Bauchi city centre from some parts of the northeast experienced delays due to slow traffic flow caused by illegal horse riders, notably, during weekends when weddings were being celebrated.
The information officer of BAROTA, Dahiru Adamu, disclosed this to reporters in Bauchi yesterday.
He warned all categories of road users to desist from all forms of illegal activities capable of congesting and obstructing traffic flow, which oftentimes result into accidents and delays.
Dahiru said BAROTA personnel will go after operators of illegal motor parks across the state to sanitise the system for the safety of passengers.
He cautioned drivers against road traffic violations such as wrong parking, night driving without proper light, over speeding, loading and off-loading of passengers by the roadside among others.
The information officer warned tricycle operators to avoid overloading, adding that appropriate punishment would be meted to those found to be violating the law.
