Bauchi State government has promised to employ Christian Religious Knowledge (IRK) teachers to reach the subject in primary schools across the state.
LEADERSHIP reports that the move is to instill societal and Christian values on pupils who are followers of Christ and to protect them from social vices.
The state governor, Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, said this when he received delegation of Christian community in the state under the leadership of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) at the Government House, yesterday.
Governor Mohammed said he was overwhelmed with the kind of support he always received from the Christian community in the state.
The governor pleaded with residents of the state to show mutual respect for one another irrespective of political, cultural, and religious differences, adding that his administration has embarked on massive infrastructure development worth billions of naira which has impacted Christian community in the state.
He said the Christmas period should be used to strengthen existing friendships and establish new ones with adherents of other faiths and reiterated his call for mutual respect and peaceful co-existence among citizens.
The Bauchi State CAN chairman, Reverend Abraham Damina, commended the governor for his gesture towards the Christian community for the Christmas festivities.
He conveyed the Christian community’s appreciation to the governor for appointments and other inclusiveness in the present administration and promised to continue to support the state government in all areas of demand.
Our correspondent reports that thousands of Christians were at the Government House to greet the governor on the occasion of 2023 Christmas celebration.
