Bauchi PDP Ward Disowns, Expels Wike-backed Chair

The crisis within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State has intensified as leaders of Jama’are “A” Ward in the Jama’are Local Government Area announced the expulsion of Haruna Mohammed Jungudo, stressing that he no longer holds any authority to speak for the party at any level.

It will be recalled that the Jama’are “A” Ward leadership had already expelled Jungudo in December last year, a decision that remains in force.

Jungudo, however, continues to present himself as leader of the Wike-aligned faction of the PDP in the state.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Ward Chairman Garba Beguwa said officials were alerted to a press release allegedly signed by Jungudo, in which he claimed to be Chairman of the Bauchi State PDP Caretaker Committee.

Beguwa noted that the ward executives condemned the claim, describing it as deceptive and affirming that the ward completely dissociates itself from such assertions.

“For clarity and transparency, Haruna Mohammed Jungudo remains duly expelled from the PDP at the ward level,” the statement emphasized.

According to the ward, Jungudo’s expulsion was carried out by the Ward Executive Committee under the leadership of Alhaji Garba Beguwa, Chairman of PDP Jama’are “A” Ward, in accordance with Sections 58(1), 59(1) and 59(2) of the PDP Constitution (2017).

Beguwa explained that these provisions empower the ward to discipline, suspend or expel any member found guilty of misconduct, indiscipline or violations of the party’s constitution and code of conduct.

He reiterated that Jungudo, having been expelled, “lacks the constitutional authority, moral standing or legitimacy” to issue statements or make representations on behalf of the party at any level.

The chairman urged party members, stakeholders and the wider public to disregard any statements or claims issued by Jungudo under the PDP name.
