The Bauchi State Police Command has thwarted an attempted theft of a Toyota Hilux vehicle belonging to the Bauchi Emirate Council within the Bauchi metropolis.
The incident occurred on January 5, 2026, when one Buhari Musa Umar, a member of the Bauchi Emirate Council, reported the theft to a police patrol team stationed at the Jos Road Roundabout, Bauchi.
According to Musa, the Toyota Hilux was parked at Inkiya Filling Station while the driver stopped to buy fuel. The driver explained that he was on an official assignment, heading to Ganjuwa Local Government Area to deliver messages from the Emir.
He said he briefly excused himself to use the restroom when an unknown individual took advantage of the moment and drove away with the vehicle to an unknown destination.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, the patrol team immediately responded upon receiving the distress report.
He added that the officers pursued the suspect and successfully recovered the stolen vehicle around the Bayan Gari area, where the suspect was also arrested.
SP Habib added that during interrogation, the suspect confessed to committing the offence.
He further stated that investigations were ongoing, after which the suspect will be properly profiled and charged in court upon completion of the investigation.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property, and to making Bauchi State more peaceful and habitable for all residents.
