The chairman of the Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Alhaji Adamu Mohammed Duguri, has emphasised that the establishment of community-based education centres is a significant step toward bringing quality early learning closer to children’s homes.
He spoke at a stakeholders’ meeting on the establishment and sustainability of community-based childhood centres and neighborhood primary schools held at the state Ministry of Education Conference Hall in Bauchi.
Duguri represented by the director of School Services at SUBEB, Alhaji Zuhairu Usman, highlighted the role of the initiative in creating safe, accessible, and functional primary schools within walking distance for every child.
Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, represented by the director of Basic Education, Mrs. Carisa Eyo, disclosed that the Federal Ministry of Education is expanding the UBEC framework to reinforce early childhood education components across the country.
He added that the ministry is providing technical support, capacity building, and enhanced monitoring systems to states.
The minister also noted ongoing partnerships with development agencies aimed at supporting state-led models of the initiative, calling on federal, state, and local governments, traditional institutions, development partners, and communities to collaborate in delivering inclusive and sustainable educational environments for all Nigerian children.
Bauchi State commissioner for Education, Dr. Mohammed Lawan Rimin Zayam, represented by the permanent secretary, Alhaji Ali Babayo, reiterated the ministry’s commitment to championing the success of the project and pledged inclusive stakeholder engagement throughout its implementation.
