An indigenous paint manufacturer in Bayelsa State, Godsgift Fekosufa, has passionately appealed to Governor Douye Diri’s administration to prioritise indigenous businesses as a pillar of economic transformation.

Fekosufa, who is from the Igbedi Community in the Kolokuma/Opokuma local government area, also argued that Bayelsa’s reliance on external suppliers is draining the local wealth meant for the state.
Speaking yesterday in Yenagoa, he stressed that with the right support, businesses like his can keep millions circulating within the state, creating jobs and driving sustainable development.

According to Fekosufa, his company has distinguished itself by producing high-quality, durable, and affordable paints that rival national brands, yet, despite its innovation and potential, the business struggles to expand due to limited capacity and market access.

He emphasised that industrial growth depends on the government’s commitment to nurturing homegrown enterprises. “The industrial growth of any state hinges on its ability to nurture local businesses,” he stated, calling on the Prosperity Government to lead by example through policies that support local industries.

He stressed that strengthening local industries would not only create jobs but also foster a culture of self-reliance, particularly at a time when Bayelsa was actively seeking economic diversification to reduce unemployment.

He challenged Bayelsans to rethink their spending habits, urging them to support homegrown products instead of outsourcing demand to companies outside the state.

“We’re not just selling paint. We’re building a legacy of prosperity for Bayelsa, something every citizen can be part of. Why look elsewhere when we have top-notch paints made right here, which means supporting local jobs, boosting our economy, and helping homegrown industries thrive”, Fekosufa said.
