Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has urged intending pilgrims from the state to conduct themselves as worthy ambassadors during the 2026 Hajj exercise in Saudi Arabia.

The governor also approved the donation of 200 Saudi Riyals to each pilgrim as part of measures to support them during their stay in the Holy Land.

Governor Yusuf made the call at the Kano Hajj Camp during a practical demonstration exercise for intending pilgrims ahead of their departure for Saudi Arabia, schedule to kickoff on May 14, 2026.

Represented by the Deputy Governor, Murtala Sule Garo, the governor said pilgrims’ conduct abroad would reflect the image and values of Kano State and Nigeria at large.

“You are going to a land where millions of Muslims from all over the world will gather. Let your conduct reflect discipline, humility, brotherhood and the true spirit of Islam. Abide by the laws of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and follow instructions from your officials,” he said.

The governor noted that the financial support was aimed at easing some of the challenges pilgrims might encounter while performing the religious rites.

He also announced the donation of free Ihram materials to all intending pilgrims from the state, while the deputy governor distributed samples to some beneficiaries at the camp.

The Director-General of the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Abubakar Ibrahim Matawalle, commended the governor for his support and commitment to the welfare of pilgrims.

Matawalle disclosed that despite initial challenges encountered by the board, all necessary arrangements, including visa processing for intending pilgrims, had been concluded successfully.
