Boko Haram Abducts Students Writing NECO Exams In Borno

Suspected Boko Haram terrorists on Monday attacked a school in Lassa, Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, abducting an unspecified number of students who were sitting for the National Examinations Council (NECO) Senior School Certificate Examination.

The attack came barely 47 days after the abduction of 42 pupils from Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School in the same local government area.

Confirming the latest incident, the spokesperson of the Borno State Police Command, Nahum Kenneth Daso, said security operatives engaged the attackers, preventing what could have been a larger-scale abduction.

Daso said an unspecified number of students were, however, taken away by the insurgents during the attack.

He added that the Commissioner of Police had deployed the Area Commander in Askira-Uba to lead ongoing search and rescue operations.

“The CP deployed the Area Commander in Askira/Uba, who is currently combing the bush with his men,” Daso said.

Security agencies are yet to confirm the exact number of students abducted, while efforts are ongoing to rescue the victims and track down the attackers.
