The Borno State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has disowned the Transitional and Registration committees set up by a group led by Kashim Imam Matawalle, warning that the party will take legal action against anyone trying to hijack its structure in the state.
The chairman of ADC in Borno, Alhaji Umara Bolori, told Journalists yesterday in Maiduguri, that the committee was an attempt by those he described as “political jobbers” to infiltrate the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He accused Kashim Imam and his cohorts of trying to impose themselves on the party despite having no grassroots presence, describing them as “Abuja-based political tourists”.
Bolori said the ADC in Borno State is gearing up for the 2027 elections, and will challenge the dominance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
He added that the party has been welcoming defectors from other opposition parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
He said,”While I and other stakeholders are making wilder consultation before the inauguration of committees to steer the party in the state, some purported party members led by Kashim Imam Matawalle engaged political thugs and forcefully entered meeting venue and breached security order, thereby caused injuries to loyal party members and security personnel.
“Based on the foregoing, the State working committee dissociates itself from any action taken during the meeting because the leadership of the party in the State was not involved.
“Appropriately, steps will be taken to remedy the situation. Relevant security agencies including the police and DSS have been informed to curtail recurrence of such illegal activity. “The Borno State ADC chairman urged members of the party to remain calm and law abiding, noting that efforts are ongoing to address the situation.
Bolori called the attention of the National Leadership of ADC to immediately intervene in Borno State ADC affairs and call Kashim Imam Matawalle and his cohorts to order so as to avoid massive rejection by the people of the state.
He said “these characters who are currently working hard on how to emerge as transition and registration committees in the state; have lost goodwill and trust with Borno people. ”
Also speaking, the assistant national organising secretary/ North East organising secretary of the ADC, Mohammed Abba Kyari, said the press conference is to alert teeming supporters, and the good people of Borno State concerning the ongoing underground plot by some group of political ‘Jobbers ‘ known as “transactional and transitional” politicians from within the party.
“They are battling to hijack the soul and structure of our party, in their desperate quest for personal relevance and political survival ahead of the 2027 general election. These politicians who have always been compromised and enjoys being an opposition since 1999, are strategically positioning themselves to continue their usual business of using opposition party as an emblem and money making venture.
“These political merchants, who are Abuja based, and not known in their constituencies, seeking the soul of ADC in Borno State are political tourists, migrating from party to party. Their ideology changes every election cycle. Their loyalty is like kerosene that evaporates the moment heat is applied,” Kyari said.
