Christian stakeholders under the All Progressives Congress Christian Stakeholders in Borno State (APCCSBS) have endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election in 2027, alongside the party’s governorship candidate in Borno State, Alhaji Mustapha Gubio and other APC flagbearers.
The endorsement was announced yesterday at the maiden meeting of Christian stakeholders, associations and APC supporters, including non-indigenous residents, held in Maiduguri, the state capital.
Other candidates endorsed at the meeting include Hon. Tarpaya Asarya, the APC candidate for Askira-Uba/Hawul Federal Constituency, and Hon. Pogu Lawan, the party’s candidate for Chibok State Constituency, among others.
At the gathering, the convener and former head of service in Borno State, Barr. Simon Malgwi, said the meeting was organised to provide a platform for Christian stakeholders to exchange ideas, share experiences, identify challenges and develop strategies for effective grassroots political mobilisation.
He explained that the initiative aimed to encourage massive participation by eligible Christian voters in the 2027 general elections to secure victory for APC candidates at both the national and state levels.
Malgwi urged Christians in Borno State to become more actively involved in politics, noting that political participation was essential to ensuring their representation in governance and access to democratic dividends.
“We the Christians in Borno should no longer remain in political wilderness. We must fully participate in politics and vote for the ruling APC so that we should no longer be left behind in terms of political appointments, job offers and other dividends of democracy,” he said.
He commended participants for their impressive turnout despite the short notice, assuring them that their commitment and sacrifices would yield positive results.
In their separate goodwill messages, the APC candidates for Askira-Uba/Hawul Federal Constituency and Chibok State Constituency, Hon. Tarpaya Asarya and Hon. Pogu Lawan, respectively, expressed appreciation to the Christian community for its support and called for sustained solidarity ahead of the elections.
They urged Christians across denominations to support their candidacies and those of other APC flagbearers, describing the party as a platform committed to promoting peace and development in Borno State and Nigeria.
Similarly, the Permanent Secretaries of the Borno State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and the Ministry of Environment, Dr Hyelni Mshelia and Comrade Juliana Bitrus, respectively, called for unity and collective commitment among Christians in the state.
They emphasised that unity of purpose was critical to achieving the gathering’s objectives, particularly the mobilisation of Christian voters ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The two officials also cautioned party supporters against depending excessively on social media campaigns, urging them instead to prioritise direct grassroots mobilisation through door-to-door campaigns and community engagements.
Also speaking, the Coordinator of the Ohaneze APC Support Group, Chief Ugochukwu Egwudike, popularly known as Go-Easy, disclosed that his group had commenced mobilisation efforts to ensure the victory of all APC candidates, from the presidency to other elective positions, in 2027.
He called for intensified grassroots campaigns, particularly door-to-door engagements, to secure overwhelming support for the party.
Other speakers, including the Chairman of the Borno Christian Youth Association, Dr Ayuba Yohanna, as well as representatives of various churches, Christian groups and associations, pledged their commitment to working together towards the success of APC candidates in the forthcoming elections.
