Borno State government has approved the recruitment of 1,000 teachers for its public secondary schools.

The commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Lawan Wakilbe, disclosed this yesterday in Maiduguri, the state capital. He said the teachers would be deployed to 139 functional secondary schools across the state.

Wakilbe said the exercise followed a directive by Governor Babagana Umara Zulum to address staffing gaps, particularly in newly built schools in rural and hard-to-reach communities.

He said that the governor had granted executive approval for the automatic employment of eight teachers identified during a recent visit to Southern Borno, noting that they would be absorbed into the broader recruitment plan.

The commissioner  expressed confidence in the Secondary School Education Board (SSEB) to conduct a transparent and credible process, adding that the government plans to recruit specialised teachers in technical and vocational education and training to boost skill-based learning.

The chairman of the SSEB, Yusufu Gana Balami, commended the state government for the initiative and pledged fairness and professionalism throughout the recruitment exercise.

In a related development, the state government approved over ₦28.6 million in support of Future Assured College, an institution for less-privileged children. Wakilbe praised the founder, Aisha Buhari, for promoting access to education for vulnerable children.

The chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Bulama Kagu, and the head of Future Assured College, Abdullahi Musa, thanked the government for the support, describing it as a boost to inclusive education in Borno.
