The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) has disclosed that a significant number of teachers, totalling 3,963, were unsuccessful in the November 2023 Professional Qualifying Examination conducted nationwide.
Prof. Josiah Ajiboye, the Registrar of the TRCN, provided insights during an interactive session with journalists on Monday.
He highlighted the examination’s purpose to evaluate the professional expertise of educators in the country.
Ajiboye revealed that out of the 15,753 teachers who participated in the examination held across 38 centres in Nigeria, 10,636 successfully passed, representing approximately 72.9 per cent. However, the remaining 3,963 candidates did not meet the qualifying criteria.
The Registrar also indicated that some candidates were absent during the examination, while others faced result cancellations due to involvement in examination malpractices.
According to The PUNCH, the November exam commenced on November 23, 2023, and concluded on November 25, 2023. Ajiboye stressed the TRCN’s commitment to enhancing the teaching profession in Nigeria.
