Head coach Daniel Thioune has cast doubt over the availability of Nigerian defender Felix Agu for Werder Bremen’s upcoming Bundesliga fixture against Mainz 05.
Agu recently returned to training after spending about a month on the sidelines with an adductor injury. While his recovery has progressed well, Thioune said the club is unwilling to rush the 23-year-old back into action.
The Bremen boss confirmed that Agu is unlikely to start the match, although a late decision could still be made regarding his inclusion in the squad.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Thioune also revealed that forward Samuel Mbangula is nearing full fitness but is also not expected to begin the game.
“They definitely won’t be starting this week, although we’ll make a decision on Saturday, at the earliest, as to whether they’ll be in the squad or not,” Thioune said.
Agu has made nine league appearances for Bremen this season before his recent injury setback.
