A former senator representing Bauchi North, Adamu Bulkachuwa, has refuted allegations of  interfering with the official functions of his wife, a former president of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, and seeking legal favours for his colleagues.

The senator argued that his comments during the valedictory session of the 9th National Assembly last week were taken out of context and linked his wife’s work as a judge to the congress.

Senator Bulkachuwa said he never used his position as husband of the former Court of Appeal president to seek favours on behalf of his colleagues who are locked in legal disputes.

In an interview with BBC Hausa, Bulkachuwa maintained that former senate president, Ahmed Lawan, interrupted him before completing his remarks, hence a window for misconception about his statement.

“Well, I was not even allowed to finish. I just started with some words like thanking her, she was patient with me, I am in politics and she is in law.

“Then the help that I told her to do, this is her nature, her behaviour, I didn’t even spare  time to say what kind of help,” he said.

Senator Bulkachuwa added,  “There are more than a hundred kinds of help which every employee, whether legal or a doctor or an engineer or anyone can offer in his work.”

He said there is no truth in the insinuation alleging that he interfered with his wife’s work while she was in office.

The leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association, has asked the Inspector General of Police and Independent Corrupt Practice and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate Bulkachuwa over the alleged comments.
