Burger Joint Staff Fends Off Attacker With Trash Can, Fry Basket

An attacker at Whataburger, a burger joint in Texas, Anthony William Newhuis, 41, was arrested and charged with assault and public intoxication.

The burger joint employee who stood up to the attacker went viral after a video of his courageous act went viral. He warded off the alleged attacker with a fry basket and a trash can.

A customer, Billy Jones, recorded the encounter as it unfolded at a Whataburger location in Paris, Texas.

He told the media that a man dressed in all black walked into the joint while he was eating and started attacking an employee. He went on to say that the fast food employee jumped into action and struck the man on the head with a wire fry basket, knocking him to the ground.

Jones told the media that he began recording as the manager joined the employee using a trash can to hit the attacker repeatedly.

Employees can be heard in the video shouting for someone to press the panic button. The attacker eventually fled the building as workers called 911.

The police have disclosed that a man named Anthony William Newhuis, of Spring, Texas, was arrested following the incident. He was found in the back parking lot of the Burger establishment, bleeding from his head, according to a press release from the Paris Police Department.

After investigating, Newhuis was arrested and charged with assault resulting in bodily injury and public intoxication. He was taken to a medical facility for treatment of his injury and jailed afterwards.

On Sunday, February 22, Newhuis walked into the restaurant and allegedly became verbally abusive toward staff; as a result, he was asked to leave. He then threatened to “return and assault the manager” before he left, it was claimed.

The report further alleges that the man returned to the restaurant and carried out the attacks, to which two employees responded by hitting him with a frying basket and a trash can.
