The Confederation of African Football (CAF) will send a 15-man delegation to Nigeria on Friday for a second and final inspection of facilities ahead of the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly and the 2026 CAF Awards.
The inspection is aimed at assessing the level of preparedness for the two major continental football events scheduled to take place in Abuja and Lagos next month.
The 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly will hold at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja, on Saturday, 21 November, while the 2026 CAF Awards ceremony is scheduled for the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, Lagos, on Monday, 7 December.
The delegation will be led by CAF’s Head of Safety and Security, Dr Christian Emeruwa, and is expected to arrive in Lagos on Friday afternoon.
During its stay in Lagos, the team will inspect facilities and hold meetings with the management of the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, Eko Hotel & Suites and Murtala Muhammed International Airport, as well as officials of the Lagos State Government.
The delegation will subsequently travel to Abuja to assess the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Transcorp Hilton Hotel and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
The CAF officials are also expected to pay courtesy visits to the Chairman and Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC).
The inspection follows an earlier visit by CAF officials between 31 July and 4 August, during which they engaged executives of government institutions and agencies involved in organising the events in both cities.
At the end of the initial assessment, the parties agreed to maintain regular communication to ensure effective coordination and establish arrangements for the successful hosting of the two events.
A six-man team from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), led by Dr Ademola Olajire, will accompany the CAF delegation during the inspections in Lagos and Abuja.
Nigeria’s hosting of the CAF Ordinary General Assembly and the continental football awards represents a major organisational assignment for the country, with the final inspection expected to assess facilities, security arrangements and operational readiness ahead of the events.
