Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN) has intensified its sensitisation campaign in Ekiti State, saying it remains a viable alternative payment platform to physical cash transactions.

The apex bank stressed the need for the citizenry to adopt and utilise the platform for seamless, hitch-free and cost- effective financial transactions.

The assistant director at the CBN office in Ado-Ekiti,  the state capital, Ayodeji Adeboboye stated this during the bank’s e-naira platform sensitisation programme at the Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI).

He said the digital platform launched by the former president, Muhammadu Buhari-led administration in 2021 was designed to boost financial transactions through technology in line with global best practices and growth of the economy.

Adeboboye who noted that CBN has taken the sensitization on the e-Naira to 14 universities across the country urged students, management and other higher institutions in the country to key into the financial electric platform for the payment of school fees and other transactions.

The sensitisation drive, according to him, became necessary for the students and staff of the state owned institution to save them of usual bottlenecks associated with other payment platforms and to enhance the effective financial transactions in the university community.

He added that the CBN remained committed to its core mandates of ensuring that the nation’s currency compete favourably with others across the globe through the e-naira digital platform and entrenched cashless policy in the economy.

Adeboboye revealed that the CBN has selected some BOUESTI students as ambassadors for the e-naira project who will be paid monthly stipends for promoting the use of the digital currency platform in the university community.

“We are here to sensitize members of the university community on the use of e-Naira and how to bring them on board. It is naira in digital form and let me say that the same things you can do with the physical naira, you can equally do it with the e-naira with even more comfort and convenience.
