Veteran entertainer and activist Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has criticised Nigerian musicians and public figures for staying silent during the nation’s ongoing security crisis.

The veteran activist urged top actors and musicians to use their massive platforms to demand social change, stressing that celebrities have a responsibility to reflect the true daily struggles of ordinary citizens.

Speaking ahead of the July 2026 launch of his new memoir titled 999, Charly Boy argued that famous entertainers often hold more influence over the public than politicians and should not shy away from national issues.

“They can do more. They have larger platforms than politicians. It won’t hurt them to speak up or make music that reflects reality,” he stated.

The Area Fada expressed deep concern over Nigeria’s worsening security challenges, warning that the situation could soon boil over if the government and the public do not take immediate, conscious steps.

“It’s going to explode in our faces,” the activist cautioned.

He also noted that old parenting methods are no longer effective in guiding Gen Z and millennial children through today’s complex societal challenges.
