The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN) said it will intensify efforts to strengthen governance reforms across public, private and nonprofit sectors as the country seeks greater corporate accountability.
This was disclosed by the ICSAN President and Chairman of Council, Uto Ukpanah, during the unveiling of the institute’s 60th anniversary logo in Lagos.
Ukpanah stated that the institute has trained directors nationwide on governance practices and will continue to partner with governments at all levels to embed accountability standards.
“When you talk about corporate governance in Nigeria, you cannot ignore ICSAN. We have been the hub of governance professionals over time,” Ukpanah said.
She stated further that the association also plan to convene a forum of chief executives and board chairmen this year to discuss boardroom challenges and share experiences.
“We want to provide a platform for leaders to exchange views on issues and threats they face,” Ukpanah added.
The institute has worked with regulators to align Nigeria’s corporate governance code with global best practices. Ukpanah noted that ICSAN played a key role in drafting the code, which has guided reforms in recent years.
“Good governance is a continuing story. We see the benefits where they exist and the downsides where they do not. Our objective is to remain a bridge that promotes dialogue,” she said.
