Deputy governor of Abia State, Ikechukwu Emetu has charged the church and other religious leaders to always speak the truth to political leaders even if it is bitter.

Emetu stated this when he received a delegation of Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) Isiala Ngwa Diocese on a courtesy visit in Umuahia, the state capital.

“When you see the government not getting it right, don’t hesitate to speak out to the leaders for correction. And we will do the needful to move the state forward,” he said.

He said the Alex Otti-led administration would continue to provide residents of the state new lease of life and expressed joy that the administration is delivering on its campaign promises.

Emetu, who commended the church for advocating good governance, stressed that the church should partner the administration to bring the desired positive changes in the state.

Speaking earlier, the bishop of the diocese, the Rt Rev Temple Nwogu extolled the administration for the achievements it has recorded within the few months of its existence.

He noted with optimism that the administration would continue to work for the welfare of the residents and assured of the readiness of the church to partner the administration.

The cleric, who later presented a copy of the Holy Bible to the deputy governor, also led the delegation on a prayer for the administration, and peace and progress in the state.
