Civil Defence Enlightens School Children About Security Precautions

Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abia State Command has embarked on enlightenment campaign to schoolchildren on security precautions and against being involved in illicit drug activities.

The state commandant of the corps, Chukwuemeka Odimba, stated this at the launch of a statewide school safety and security sensitisation campaign in Umuahia, the state capital.

The campaign tagged “School Safety Sensitisation and Reach-Out Programme 2026,” aims at educating the schoolchildren and the teachers on security precautions and dangers of illicit drug use.

“We want to build a culture of security consciousness and alertness in the children and the teachers. We are convinced that if we get it right at that level, then the society will be safer.

“The programme became necessary following the corps’ recently concluded security assessment tour of unity schools, colleges of education, polytechnics, and universities in the state.

“And this is the next stage of our comprehensive plans to secure our children, teachers and promote a peaceful learning environment in the state,” he said.

Odimba said the command was partnering with the state chapter of the Civil Defence Officers’ Wives Association led by his wife, Lady Ijeoma Odimba, to execute the programme.

‎He lauded her for her interventions including organising sensitisation workshops, providing study materials, offering scholarships to indigent children, and sanitary products for the girl- child.

‎At a recent outing at Comprehensive Secondary School, Umuda, the command’s head of Safe School Unit Chinyere Umezurike, took the students on security tips and self defence.
