Chairman of Ika local government area of Akwa Ibom State, Hon. Utibe Abasi Nwoko and the senior special assistant (SSA) to Governor Umo Eno on Research and Documentations, Dr Essien Ndueso, have applauded the completion of the strategic Ika-Azumini Highway linking Abia State.
The road expected to enhance bilateral relationship in trade, business, political and socio-economic cooperation, LEADERSHIP learnt, would be inaugurated by the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday, September 24, as part of activities marking the 38th anniversary of the state.
Inspecting the road on Tuesday, the officials lauded the commitment of the governors – Eno, of Akwa Ibom and Alex Otti (Abia), for jointly committing resources to ensure its completion.
Ndueso recalled that the road had been in the works since the era of successive governors – Godswill Akpabio and Udom Emmanuel, and commended his boss, Governor Eno, for seeing through its completion.
Nwoko noted that the road has become one of the busiest as commuters to the neighbouring Abia and Rivers states would no longer have a hectic time navigating through Ika LGA to their destinations in Aba and Port Harcourt.
“The completion of this all-important road linking Abia from Ika here will accelerate bilateral trades between the two neighbouring states and Rivers.
“Governors Eno and Otti deserve commendation for burying every sentiment of party politics for development,” Enobong Usen, a local resident of Ika, told our Correspondent.
