Receiving the delegation, led by Prof. Wale Olawoyin (SAN), head of the Department of Commercial and Industrial Law, the executive secretary, Dr Akutah Pius, described the proposed partnership as timely and strategic.

He emphasised the council’s commitment to introducing impactful, practical training programmes that will build the capacity of its workforce and address the industry’s evolving demands.

“We are committed to strengthening our human capital, and we welcome this opportunity to work closely with UNILAG in areas that will enhance sector performance,” Dr Akutah stated.

Responding, Prof. Olawoyin commended the NSC’s leadership and noted that the University is well-positioned to contribute meaningfully to the maritime space through academic collaboration.

“There is much to be gained from a well-structured relationship with the Shippers’ Council, and we are confident this can contribute meaningfully to national maritime development,” he added.

The visit marks the beginning of what both parties hope will be a productive and long-term partnership to build capacity, drive policy innovation, and support the broader goals of Nigeria’s maritime and blue economy agenda.
