Justice Akintayo Aluko of the Federal High Court in Lagos has convicted and sentenced a FedEx dispatch rider, Anebi Linus, to two years in prison for trafficking 3 kilograms of ADB Chminaca, a synthetic cannabinoid similar to cocaine, LSD, and heroin.

Justice Aluko also sentenced a motor boy, Paul Nwagbara, to 15 years for aiding in loading and transporting 838 litres of codeine.

Linus and Nwagbara have pleaded guilty to two separate charges of drug trafficking filed against them by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

The prosecutor, Christopher Izuagbe, had told the court that the rider was arrested on February 5, 2026, at a FedEx office in Ikeja, Lagos, with the ADB Chminaca.

Izuagbe had also maintained that the offence is contrary to and punishable under section 11(a) of the NDLEA Act.

Based on the convict’s plea, the prosecutor reviewed the facts of the case and requested a conviction and sentence under section 274(2) of the ACJA 2015.

The defence lawyer pleaded for leniency, emphasising that he is a father of two who was dismissed from FedEx and has promised not to repeat the offence.

Justice Aluko sentenced Anebi Linus to two years in prison or a N500,000 fine.

On the charge against Nwagbara, Izuagbe told the court that he was arrested on March 17, 2026, on the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos, with the drug.

His actions violated section 14(b) of the NDLEA Act.

The convict’s lawyer, Augustine Nwagu, also urged the judge to show mercy and consider a non-custodial sentence.

After listening to the lawyers, Justice Aluko sentenced Nwagbara to 15 years in prison or a fine of N500,000, citing relevant legal authorities.
