A Chief Magistrate Court in Bauchi State has sentenced one Nasir Gwallaga and two others to one year imprisonment each for assaulting officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Bara Village of Kirfi local government area of the state in 2023.

FRSC Sector Commander in Bauchi State, Istifanus Ibrahim, disclosed this while speaking with journalists in Bauchi on Friday, explaining that they were arraigned on a three-count charge of conspiracy to commit obstruction, obstruction of civil servants and assault of public servants while on duty.

The court, presided over by Safiya Doma at the Chief Magistrate Court, Fadama Mada, Bauchi State ruled on June 23, 2025 that the convicts could alternatively pay a fine of N15,000 each or observe the one year jail term.

In addition to the sentencing, the principal offender, Nasir Gwallaga, was also ordered to pay the sum of N150 million to the FRSC as a compensation for a patrol vehicle he set ablaze during the assault.

Gwallaga was also directed to pay another N170,000 for damaging a Samsung Galaxy phone belonging to the acting unit commander (UC).

Furthermore, all the convicts were ordered to pay N50,000 to cover prosecution costs incurred by the complainant.

The Judge ruled that the convicts have a right of appeal to the High Court of Justice within 30 days of the Judgement.

Commenting on the judgment, the sector commander described it a deterrent to those who take the law into their own hands and urged the members of public to remain law-abiding.

“Members of the motoring public are advised to be law abiding as we are not enemies, but compatriots on the road to save lives and property,” said the Sector Commander.
