The presiding judge, Justice S.M. Shuaibu delivered the ruling on Monday after Huseini pleaded guilty to a one-count charge of Naira abuse brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The offence is punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act, 2007.

According to the charge, the incident occurred on December 6, 2024, at the Ali Jita Event Centre in Kano where Huseini was seen in a viral video spraying N100,000 in N1,000 denomination notes while dancing at his wedding.

“That you, Abdullahi Musa Huseini, on the 6th day of December, 2024, at Ali Jita Event Centre, Kano, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, whilst dancing during a social event, tampered with the sum of N100,000.00 (One Hundred Thousand Naira) in N1000 notes denomination issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying at the said occasion,” the charge read.

Following his plea, the prosecuting counsel, Zarami Mohammed, tendered the facts of the case alongside visual and documentary evidence, leading the court to convict the social media influencer.

In his judgment, Justice Shuaibu ruled that Huseini be sentenced to six months imprisonment without the option of a fine, noting that the offence was a clear violation of existing monetary regulations.

The EFCC had earlier apprehended the make-up artist following credible intelligence regarding his public display.

Investigations revealed that Huseini deliberately defaced the Naira, flouting CBN regulations despite widespread campaigns discouraging the practice.

The commission reiterated its warning to Nigerians against spraying or mutilating the Naira, describing such actions as economic sabotage that undermines the integrity of the nation’s currency.
