Cow Runs Amok, Injures 2 ln Delta Gov’t House

There was pandemonium in Government House, Asaba, Delta State on Friday, when a cow meant for slaughter broke loose and attacked people.

In the confusion, scores were injured, one person was immediately rushed to the emergency unit of Government House clinic.

One of the victims, a man in his 30s, who attempted to subdue the animal, was severely injured after being knocked down.

“He sustained deep wounds on his thighs and was initially taken to the Government House Clinic for emergency care.

“Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred to an undisclosed hospital where he is currently battling for his life.

“Another victim, identified simply as Peter, a Cook in the Government House, also sustained injuries.

“The first two butchers called to slaughter the cow were unable to handle it and fled the scene. The critically injured victim was reportedly the second person called to take over the task,” a source within the Government House disclosed.

At the time of this report, there was no official comment about the sad incident.

A concerned citizen questioned the wisdom of bringing live animals to the Government House.

He advised those in charge of Government House kitchen to do the slaughtering of such animals in approved and clean places under supervision of officials from Government House, Asaba.

As at the time of this report, authorities were yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
