The Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, has honoured 35 officers and men of the command with the Commissioner’s Commendation Award in recognition of their outstanding professionalism, dedication and exemplary service.
Speaking during the award presentation ceremony at the Kogi State Police Command Headquarters in Lokoja, the police commissioner described the event as a celebration of dedication, courage, professionalism and selfless service to the nation.
He said the award was instituted to publicly recognise officers whose exceptional performance, commitment to duty and loyalty to the ideals of the Nigeria Police Force had distinguished them among their colleagues.
Kankarofi said that since assuming office, the command had remained committed to building an intelligence-driven, operationally effective, professionally accountable and community-oriented policing system.
According to him, the vision can only be achieved through the commitment and sacrifices of officers who continue to work under difficult and dangerous conditions to protect lives and property across Kogi State.
He noted that the award recipients distinguished themselves through strategic leadership, intelligence gathering, criminal investigation, rescue operations, prosecution of offenders, capacity building and effective operational command.
The commissioner said their contributions had strengthened the command’s fight against crime, leading to successful anti-banditry operations, the rescue of kidnapped victims, the arrest of notorious criminal elements, the dismantling of kidnapping and human trafficking syndicates, effective prosecution of sexual and gender-based violence cases and improved operational strategies.
He attributed the achievements to discipline, teamwork, professionalism and unwavering commitment to service.
While congratulating the award recipients, Kankarofi urged them to sustain the high standards that earned them the recognition and remain role models to other officers.
“This commendation is a recognition of your hard work and dedication. It is also a challenge to continue to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and serve as worthy ambassadors of the Nigeria Police Force,” he said.
The commissioner also encouraged officers who were not among the recipients not to be discouraged, stressing that the award was meant to inspire healthy competition, reward excellence and promote continuous professional development.
He said every officer had the opportunity to earn recognition through integrity, diligence, innovation and outstanding performance in the discharge of their responsibilities.
Kankarofi expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, for his leadership, support and operational policies aimed at strengthening policing across the country.
He also commended the Kogi State Government, other security agencies, traditional rulers, community leaders, vigilante groups, hunters and the media for their support and collaboration in improving security across the state.
The police commissioner reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling emerging security challenges through improved professionalism, intelligence-led policing and stronger collaboration with stakeholders.
A total of 35 personnel, comprising Assistant Commissioners of Police, Chief Superintendents of Police, Superintendents, Deputy Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, Inspectors, Sergeants and Corporals, received the Commissioner’s Commendation Award for their outstanding contributions to the successes recorded by the Kogi State Police Command.
