The Conference of Professionals in the Peoples Democratic Party (CP-PDP) has countered former Governor of Delta State Senator Ifeanyi Okowa’s position that President Bola Tinubu should be allowed to complete an eight-year tenure.
The pro-PDP group said the agonising and harrowing hardship being faced by Nigerians under the APC rule will make it difficult for the president to get a second term.
The protem national coordinator of the group, Bar Obinna Nwachukwu, claimed that APC and all its apologists will face a disgraceful wholesale defeat in the 2027 Presidential election.
He said Okowa’s statement reflects an ideological summersault and a painful disregard to the trust, admiration and support accorded to him by millions of Nigerian citizens as PDP’s vice-presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections.
“His comment has crushed the spirits of most Nigerians, especially the youths, coming as a huge betrayal of the confidence of over 9 million citizens who, in 2023, followed him in the fight against the perpetuation of APC misrule as represented in the Tinubu candidacy only for them to be presented with a volte-face at their most trying moment.
“Is it not heart-rending that a leader who stood on different podiums across the country, campaigning and cautioning Nigerians about the dangers of voting in President Tinubu and the APC in 2023 is now canvassing that a failed administration which is inflicting hardship on the people be given a second term?”, Nwachukwu said.
Claiming that Nigeria has no hope under the Tinubu Presidency, the conference said it believes the six geo-political zones in the country have qualified leaders who are better equipped with the required capacity and patriotism to be elected as President in 2027.
“Senator Okowa must know that Nigerians are not ready to accept his suggestion which amounts to surrendering themselves to a life of misery and unending suffering,” he said.
