Senator Eteng Jonah Williams, the senator representing Cross River Central, has handed over N12 million and 200 bags of rice to residents of Boki local government.
The donation was made at a town hall meeting in Boje, where the senator engaged with community leaders, party stalwarts and ordinary citizens.
“We are here to share the joy of Christmas and bring some relief to our vulnerable brothers and sisters,” Williams told the gathering.
He explained that the Boki outreach is part of his seasonal tour covering the six LGAs that make up the Central Senatorial District, with Yakurr, Abi, Obubra, Etung and Ikom slated for similar interventions.
The senator said the gesture is meant to celebrate the festive season and thank Boki people for their loyalty to Governor Bassey Otu’s administration.
“I came to celebrate Christmas and the New Year with you, and to assure you that we will keep engaging through regular town‑hall meetings to discuss development priorities,” he added.
Williams also announced a free‑transport scheme for students and holiday‑makers heading back to Calabar after the festivities. “We want to make it easier for our youths to travel safely during this busy period,” he said.
Various groups—including youths, students, women, support groups and persons living with disabilities—will each receive N500,000 as part of the support package. “This is a token of our commitment to the wellbeing of every segment of our community,” the senator remarked.
Chief Kelvin Njong, APC chairman in Boki, praised the senator’s consistent presence during festive periods. “Senator Williams has always identified with the people in times of celebration; we are grateful and assure him of our continued support,” Njong said.
Mrs Beatrice Nyiam, chairperson of Boki local government area, echoed the sentiment. “He is a committed leader who never forgets his people. We wish him a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year,” she added.
The event underscored Williams’ strategy of using seasonal goodwill tours to strengthen ties with constituents and push forward development initiatives across the Central Senatorial District.
