The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Nigeria, Miriam Morales Palmero, has expressed gratitude to the Nigerian and African Governments for the ceaseless show of solidarity and support to her country in their quest for justice in the face of oppression.
The envoy made this known in her address during events to mark the 9th anniversary of the passing of Cuba’s iconic Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz in Abuja recently.
She described the solidarity between Cuba and the people of Africa as “a living and indestructible bond,” adding that celebration of the 9th anniversary of the physical disappearance of the Commander-in-Chief of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, presented an opportunity for the strengthening of bond.
She said “Fidel was not only a political leader; he was a universal symbol of justice, an unwavering defender of the humblest, and a firm voice against all forms of oppression. His life was an absolute dedication to just causes—a struggle that transcended Cuba to embrace all those who fight for a better future.”
She added that while Castro lived, he felt a profound respect and sincere brotherhood for Africa and recognized the greatness of a people who, despite historical challenges, never lost their spirit of struggle.
“His physical departure in 2016 left a deep sorrow not only within the Cuban people, but also among millions around the world who saw in him an example of dignity, coherence, and resistance,” Palmero said
She however, declared that “Fidel did not leave. Fidel remains. His thought remains, his example, his loyalty to principles, and the conviction that his work will continue to guide every just, honest person committed to the rights of the humblest.
“His legacy is not a closed chapter; it is a living commitment that calls to us day after day. These are significant moments of his life, which will allow us to approach once more his human greatness, his revolutionary spirit, his boundless dedication, and the moral strength that accompanied each of his steps.”
