Customs, MFM Finish Unbeaten As Zenith Bank/NBBF Women’s League First Phase Ends

MFM and Nigeria Customs have emerged as the standout teams after completing the first phase of the 2026 Zenith Bank/Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) Women’s Premier Basketball League unbeaten in the Atlantic and Savannah Conferences respectively.

Two-time champions MFM Women’s Basketball Club underlined their title credentials by finishing top of the Atlantic Conference with a perfect seven wins from seven matches.

MFM, who are determined to reclaim the title they surrendered to defending champions Dolphins last season, completed their dominant campaign with a convincing 62-37 victory over record champions First Bank at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, on Saturday.

The result saw MFM finish the phase at the summit with seven victories, while Victoria Queens continued their impressive campaign by securing second place with six wins and one defeat — their only loss coming against MFM.

Victoria Queens defeated First Deep Water 65-49 to register their sixth victory, while Bayelsa Blue Whales secured a 69-32 win over IGP Queens.

In another fixture, defending champions Dolphins suffered another setback, going down 49-39 to Royal Aces.

First Bank finished third with five wins and two defeats, followed by Bayelsa Blue Whales in fourth with four victories and three losses.

Royal Aces occupied fifth position after recording three wins from seven matches, while Dolphins were sixth with only two victories.

First Deep Water finished seventh with one win and six defeats, while IGP Queens remained rooted to the bottom after failing to win any of their matches.

In the Savannah Conference, Nigeria Customs also completed the first phase unbeaten after defeating Aso Sky Queens 49-45 in their final game to finish top of the six-team standings.

The teams will now shift attention to the second phase, scheduled to take place in Port Harcourt in September.

At the conclusion of the second phase, the top four teams from each conference will qualify for the Final Eight playoffs in Lagos, where the league champions will be determined.
