Customs Strengthens Ties With Navy

The Tin Can Island Customs Command has strengthened its partnership with the Nigerian Navy, in a bid to enhance security and curb sea robbery.

The controller of the command, Comptroller Frank Onyeka, said to achieve a safe and prosperous nation, all security agencies in the country must prioritise national security and reinforce collaboration among themselves.

While receiving the Commanding Officer Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base Badagry, Navy Captain Omotayo Oyeleye in his office on Thursday, Onyeka said beyond the core functions of revenue generation, trade facilitation and suppression of smuggling activities, Tin Can Island Port Command also aims to build a strong and formidable synergy with all security agencies to deter criminal elements from perpetuating their nefarious activities through the seaport, describing such actions as detrimental to national development.

Continuing, the Controller lauded the efforts of the Nigerian Navy for providing adequate maritime security against sea robberies.

In his submissions, the commanding officer praised the Nigeria Customs Service for always rising to the occasion of joint patrol, disclosing that such input by the service has always been pivotal to the success of joint operations.

In another development, Comptroller Onyeka paid a familiarisation visit to the Controllers of the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Services PTML and Tincan Island Commands.

During the visit which was held at the Quarantine office in Tincan, he reassured the agency of continued collaboration and expressed his commitment to integrating the Quarantine Service into the Command’s activities for better synergy.
