Residents of Damaturu the Yobe State capital and its environs have commended governor Mai Mala Buni for untiring efforts which led to the restoration of electricity in the town after power outage necessitated by by vandalization of the towers of the 330KVA.
The governor had in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government Alhaji Baba Mallam Wali directed the Rural Electrification Board (REB) and the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) to as a matter of urgency restore the 33KV line from Potiskum to Damaturu.
Habu Mohammed of Nayi-Nawa said thge restoration of the power supply has helped in reducing hardship especially in the area of water supply as because most boholes are connected to electricity, the cost of water cart has risen from N150 to N1, 000.
Also, Habiba Ali in Damaturu said, “The power outage has forced us to take our grains to grinding machines that use diesel and you know what that means with the current hike in the fuel prices.”
The SSG’s statement reads, “As a result of power outage in Damaturu and environs, His Excellency, Governor Mai Mala Buni CON has contacted the federal government for the reconstruction of the vandalized 330KVA towers. The TCN has already awarded a contract for the reconstruction of the affected towers.
“Meanwhile, in order to provide alternative power to Damaturu and environs, His Excellency Hon. Mai Mala Buni CON has directed the R.E.B and YEDC to restore the 33KV line from Potiskum to Damaturu with immediate effect.
“The general public is therefore enjoined to kindly exercise patience as the government is doing everything possible to address the situation.
“The general public is further called upon to continue to pray for peace and prosperity of the state and the country at large.”
