The inaugural First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Golf Classic is set to take place on Saturday, 25 April 2026, at the Canaanland Golf and Country Club in Koko, Delta State. The announcement was made on Thursday by Felix Aganbi, Chief Executive Officer of Akogate Group.
In a statement, Mr. Aganbi highlighted the tournament’s goals: “The Oluremi Tinubu Golf Classic will attract international talent, create opportunities for emerging players and motivate the next generation to see what is possible in the women’s game.”
The event, spearheaded by Sir Alfred and Mrs. Warami Temile, aims to bolster women’s golf in Nigeria, particularly within the Niger Delta region. Organisers anticipate the classic will draw women golfers, officials, and fans to Warri North, thereby boosting the local tourism and hospitality sectors in Delta State.
“Aside from the one-day swing, it is an opportunity for the women to earn prize money,” Aganbi added.
The tournament is designed to empower women and prepare them for various roles. Mr. Aganbi urged men across Nigeria to encourage their female relatives to participate, stating, “It is time that men realise that an illiterate, ignorant and unenlightened woman is a liability, not just to the nation, but also to the family.”
Organisers expect 75 women from across Nigeria to compete in the classic.
