Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya has shared a heartfelt farewell to Karl Hein following the confirmation of his transfer from Arsenal to Werder Bremen.
Hein, the Estonian international, spent the 2025/26 season on loan at the Bundesliga club and will now make the move permanent, as announced on Saturday.
In an emotional Instagram post, Hein reflected on his time at Arsenal, describing it as a pivotal part of his development. To this, Raya responded, “All the best, Karlitos. I wish you nothing but the best; it was a pleasure to share a dressing room with you.”
Having nearly spent a decade in north London, Hein’s post read: “Where do I begin… eight beautiful years with this amazing club have come to an end. It was a genuine privilege to be part of @arsenal for such an extended period. Looking back, it feels surreal to have transitioned from the academy to the first team, and I will always be grateful to this remarkable football club.
“This club has helped me grow from a 16-year-old boy into a goalkeeper and individual capable of realising my aspirations. Who would have imagined that I would find a REAL FAMILY in London whom I cherish?
“I’ve created countless irreplaceable memories, friendships, and connections that will remain with me eternally. Congratulations to everyone associated with this exceptional club for securing the Premier League title this year, and may there be many more to follow! Once a Gooner, always a Gooner.”
Bremen announced that Hein, who has been sidelined in recent months due to injury, will join them as their new No. 1, with Mio Backhaus, who played ahead of him last season, set to transfer to Freiburg.
An official statement from Arsenal confirmed, “Karl Hein will complete a permanent move to Bundesliga side Werder Bremen in July 2026. The 24-year-old joined us in June 2018 from Nomme United and signed his first professional contract a year later. He made his first-team debut in November 2022 against Brighton & Hove Albion in the Carabao Cup.
“The 6ft 4in goalkeeper has also been on loan in the Championship with Reading and Real Valladolid, where he made a total of 32 appearances last season. We thank Karl for his contributions to the club and wish him the very best in his future endeavours with Werder Bremen. The agreement is subject to the completion of regulatory procedures.”
