In a deft political move, former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim, on Wednesday, met with President Bola Tinubu, days after defecting from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The meeting with President Tinubu took place at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Wednesday.

Anyim had also previously served as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) under the PDP-led government.

Imo State governor, Hope Uzodimma, who chairs both the South-East Governors Forum and the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), led Anyim to the Presidential Villa alongside Ebonyi State governor, Francis Nwifuru.

Speaking on his decision to switch parties, Anyim cited the current challenges facing the country. “Given the turbulent times our nation is experiencing, there’s a need for all hands to be on deck,” he stated.

Anyim emphasised the importance of contributing to a peaceful atmosphere and fulfilling one’s patriotic duty.

Governor Uzodimma hailed the defection as a major coup for the APC, describing Anyim as a “big fish” caught by the ruling party.

The same sentiment was echoed by Governor Nwifuru, who asserted that Anyim, who hails from Ebonyi State, is “not a small fry” and his move was not motivated by personal gain.
