Comrade Grace Ike, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, has been honoured with a Humanitarian Award for Excellence in Service as the Women of Glory Foundation marked its 10th anniversary in Abuja.

The award recognised Ike’s contributions to society and her role in mobilising journalists in support of national development and humanitarian causes.

The Women of Glory Foundation described Ike as the “Most Active Journalistic Mobiliser,” commending her leadership and consistent advocacy for social development.

The foundation, which has a presence across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, is dedicated to supporting vulnerable women, including widows, single mothers and the elderly through empowerment programmes, mentorship, skills training and healthcare interventions.

Founder of the organisation, Dr. Nneka Evelyn Nzewi, said the foundation was inspired by her personal experience of watching her mother struggle to raise five children after the early death of her father.

She explained that the experience shaped her commitment to helping women facing similar challenges and motivated her to establish a platform for empowerment and support.

The anniversary event attracted women leaders and stakeholders from different sectors who gathered to celebrate the foundation’s decade-long humanitarian impact.

Assistant Secretary of the NUJ FCT Council, Sharon Emephia, received the award on behalf of Ike.

Speaking on behalf of the NUJ FCT chairman, Emephia expressed gratitude to the foundation for the honour and praised its sustained humanitarian work over the past 10 years.

“I receive this honour with gratitude and humility, and I see it not just as a personal award but as a reflection of the collective efforts of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council and the values we uphold in promoting truth, development and societal progress,” she said.

The foundation called for continued collaboration among stakeholders to expand its humanitarian reach and deepen its impact on vulnerable communities across the country.
