The College Provost of the National Defence College (NDC), Abuja, Professor Ahmed Abere has advocated investment in developmental culture that could bring out the potential in youths and women in Egbira land.
He started this during the launching of the maiden report produced by the Area 10 Elite Forum’s annual get-together and lecture series.
Abere observed that culture had evolved beyond just a way of life, stating it was now a multi-billion-naira industry in Nigeria and worldwide. He noted that the Egbira have uniqueness in everything they do, whether it be in culture, fashion, or other aspects.
Alluding to Professor Sunday Ododo’s position on masquerader outings, he stressed that the indiscriminate nature of masquerader outings in Kogi Central was an abuse of the said culture, which had no historical precedent.
The Professor of history and book reviewer highlighted the critical segment of the report, which emphasised the economic development of Kogi State, particularly the central part of the state.
He commended the organisers for their fantastic initiative in bringing together some brilliant professors from various institutions across the country to deliberate on and proffer solutions to a critical topic: how to curb and mitigate moral decadence in society through the promotion of the rural economy among women and youths in Egbira land.
He noted that this kind of engagement should be sustained and that policymakers at the state level should be involved.
The representative of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, Abdullahi Ozomata, equally commended the forum. According to him, having participated in the program from start to finish, he will convey the message and lessons learnt from the various speakers to the Governor and promise that the government will respond positively to all the recommendations.
