El-Kanemi Warriors technical adviser Kabiru Dogo has praised his players’ resilience and determination following a vital 1-0 victory over Nasarawa United in their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 34 encounter.

The closely contested fixture, played on Tuesday, saw the Maiduguri-based side secure all three points courtesy of a dramatic late winner from forward Rislanu Ismail, who struck just two minutes from full-time. The goal sparked jubilant scenes among the home supporters and provided a significant boost to El-Kanemi’s campaign.

The result lifts El-Kanemi Warriors to 11th position on the NPFL table, strengthening their push to steer clear of relegation danger as the season approaches its decisive stages. For Nasarawa United, however, the defeat represents a setback in their pursuit of a top finish, leaving them in sixth place.

Reflecting on the encounter, Dogo acknowledged the quality and intensity typically associated with meetings between both sides, describing the match as a “top-class contest”. He emphasised the need for continued improvement despite the victory.

“Matches between these two teams are always top-class encounters,” Dogo stated in his post-match remarks. “We thank God for the win, but we must go back to the drawing board to correct the mistakes we observed today. We will intensify training ahead of our next game.”

The experienced tactician also highlighted the importance of maintaining focus and consistency as the league campaign nears its conclusion, noting that every point remains crucial in determining final standings.

El-Kanemi Warriors will next host Shooting Stars SC in Maiduguri, aiming to build momentum and further distance themselves from the drop zone. Meanwhile, Nasarawa United will seek to bounce back when they welcome Warri Wolves at the Lafia City Stadium in what promises to be another competitive outing.
