A group under the aegis of Concerned Edo Progressives (CEP) has declared support for Barrister Kasimu Otono’s aspiration to contest the Edo 2024 Governorship election, stressing the need for a youth to take over the executive power of governance in the state.

Youthful Otono is running under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming Edo 2024 governorship election.

The group called on all relevant stakeholders in the state to look beyond the “sacred unwritten rotation” that might overly politicise the polity and focus more on competence and actual delivery on the needs of the people of the state.

In a communique signed by the spokesperson of the organisation, Mr. Hassan Abiri, it stated that it is high time to put forward a capable, young, and vibrant Edo Son who has proven excellence in their chosen career without questionable character to fill the highly exalted governorship seat of the state.

He stressed that the people of the state have waited long for a good, effective, and dynamic person to occupy the governance in Edo State, adding that integrity, character, capacity, humility, and competence are required to rescue the state.

The group acknowledged a golden rule adopted by all relevant stakeholders to foster peace, unity, and fairness among all Edo Sons and Daughters but urged the APC to look beyond sentiment and prioritise competence and capacity to deliver the Renewed Hope mantra of Mr. President.

Abiri further reiterated Barrister Otono’s commitment and antecedent as a loyal party man, demonstrating loyalty by not decamping to any other party. He also noted Otono’s aspiration in 2022 when he stepped down for the former national chairman of the Party, Comrade Adams Aliu Oshiomole (now a Senator), and noted that it is now time to be rewarded.
