Indications have emerged that scheduled commercial flights will commence at the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport on Wednesday, December 10, 2025.

This is in line with the Ekiti State government’s formal agreement with United Nigeria Airlines to operate commercial flights connecting Ekiti with Lagos and Abuja.

The technical advisor to the Governor on the Airport Project, Air Vice Marshall Sunday Makinde (rtd), who made this known in Ado Ekiti, said the aircraft slated for the first scheduled flight, which has a capacity of about 50 passengers, has completed all required clearance procedures, adding that Flight tickets will be made available on the airline’s website.

Makinde, who reiterated the commitment of Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s administration to making Ekiti a hub for investors, tourists, and businesses, highlighted the government’s focus on infrastructure development, policy frameworks, and public-private partnerships to attract investment and create jobs.

He assured residents of safety, comfort, and fair treatment for all passengers at the airport, noting that the Governor’s proposed subsidy on ticket prices underscores the administration’s commitment to affordable air travel.

“The Governor is committed to making flying affordable. Ekiti people deserve convenience, safety, and global access,” he said.

AVM Makinde added that schools, tourists, local entrepreneurs, and aviation enthusiasts will also have access to the facility for educational visits and tours.

“This airport belongs to everyone, from businessmen and students to farmers, civil servants, and travellers. It is a national asset and a gift from this administration to the people.”

Also speaking, the General Manager of the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Airport, Mr Charles Arogunma, confirmed that the airport is fully ready for scheduled flights, holding certification from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority and boasting over 200 successful landings since January.

Describing the airport as one of the safest air facilities in the country, Mr Arogunma noted that it hosts the Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Police, and Aviation Security Unit.
